Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 201 -- LIFELONG LEARNING MONTH

SPONSOR: Sims (Farnen)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Education-Elementary and Secondary by a vote of 23 to 0.

This bill requires the Governor to proclaim each February as
"Lifelong Learning Month," to be observed with appropriate
activities in the public schools.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this provision was in a bill
that was vetoed last year for technical reasons. Both Governor
Carnahan and Governor Holden have previously issued
proclamations on Lifelong Learning Month.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Sims.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
